Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy.  It is a Japanese Healing Technique.  It has no dogma or religious beliefs.  Dr. Mikao Usui gave us the following five basic principles:

Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to everything.

Its training consists of three levels and a Mastership.

Singing Introduction:

Singing is the most personal of all modes of expression.  When we produce a sound, our entire body vibrations resonate defining who we are.  The issue is that at some level we realize this and we are in conflict with it.  Our confidence, self-respect, self-value, self-worth, cultural background come through the minute we open our mouths and emit the first resonance.

There is no mistake then when a seemly shy person comes alive when performing.  This is their voice.  On the same token, a boisterous person may not be able to sing because their life has all been spent defending themselves and a wall has been put up.  Time needs to be spent reaching within and connecting to the voice within.

There is a need to be heard.  We all have a voice.  No judgment must be placed upon it.  We are all singers by nature.  There is an old African proverb that says:

                                                                                                         "If you can walk You can run.  If you can talk You can Sing"

The aim is not to be a famous singer.  The aim is to know thy self.

The Breath:

The breath is the most important connection to the universe.  This is our lifeline.  It is what sustains us.  In yogic terms, the breath or "prana" is considered the life energy.  Our breathing supports our voice.

The lotus flower is an Asian water lily that resembles the Western rose. It is known because the seed grows out of mad into a beautiful flower. It represents the struggle into this transformation. In the yoga world, the lotus flower represents the crown chakra with its 1,000 petals as it is said to be the purest plant. The Buddhist also believe in the qualities of this flower. The different colors that a lotus can be found in can represent different qualities.

Common Root:

It is well theorized that all humans stem from the same background.  Joseph Campbell discussed this at length in The Power of Myth.  Here is another hypothesis to this concept:

Martial Arts, as well as other Eastern Arts, have long been considered to come from only from the East.  We know this about Taoist Tai Chi, Kung Fu Wu Su, Karate, and many others.  Interestingly enough, there are many other cultures that use forms of martial arts as weapon instruction and defense.  Some have even evolved into forms of dancing and games adults play.

For example:  1) The aboriginals of the Canary Islands were called the "Guanches."  They were known for a martial art called "Juego del Palo."  This art is still played and displayed on the islands.  You can see it on some local shows.  Many games have derived from this indiginous art. Juego del Palo; Guanche;

2) In the South African culture of Zulu, martial arts is a part of the dances;

3) In the Maori culture of New Zealand, dances include long poles that were originally training fighting weapons.
